Our Team

Dr Kelly Bowers

Principal Psychologist + Founder of ManKind Network
BExSci., BPsychSci (Hons)., DPsych(Clinical)

Kelly seeks all things involving movement, and equally enjoys learning about the capacities of the human mind. Naturally, he is ever interested in the mind and body connection. Following this interest, Kelly has completed dual degrees in exercise science and psychology.

Kelly has experience as a clinical psychologist working with men, youth and families in relation to mental health, lifespan development, child abuse, trauma and neglect, chronic health conditions, persistent pain, injury recovery and sports psychology.

Kelly is passionate about working alongside his clients to help them achieve health outcomes that are most meaningful to them. Kelly’s philosophy is to PREVENT illness where possible, be PROACTIVE when healthcare intervention is required, in order to PERFORM in life areas that are most important to individual clients. Kelly is particularly interested in utilising this approach with men and young men alike, to inspire them to proactively engage in their health care, and to develop a strong sense of identity and confidence to live a value-based life.

Kelly understands the challenges that young men may experience when engaging in health care services and particularly traditional talk therapy. This has inspired Kelly to adopt a dynamic therapeutic approach, which can incorporate game play and physical activity that provide opportunities for experiential learning. Kelly’s background in exercise science has him well placed to provide this style of service, all the while continuing to employ evidence based psychological practice. Kelly commonly utilises strategies from psychological frameworks including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Schema Therapy, Family Systems approaches, Solutions Focussed Therapy, and Positive Psychology.

Kelly has experience working in and supervising multidisciplinary teams that adopt collaborative and holistic approaches to client care. He highly values the experience and service that other health disciplines can provide. Kelly ensures that he continues to collaborate with other disciplines by regularly sharing feedback regarding client progress and participating in case conferencing and professional development opportunities with his professional peers.

Furthermore, as an AHPRA approved clinical supervisor, Kelly gains great satisfaction and pride in passing on his clinical knowledge to other professionals across a range of disciplines.

When away from ManKind Network, Kelly enjoys reading and being active with his family including his 3 children and his dog, Poppy.
